The Auditorium di Mecenate was discovered in 1874 on the Esquilino hill. It was a part of the huge Mecenate’s villa, a close friend of Emperor Ottaviano Augusto, built in 30 b.C.
It was probably a sort of nimpheum, placed 7 meters underground, with fountains and water falls. The walls are richly decorated with magnificient frescoes of III pompeanian style.
