The Cestian Pyramid is the most outstanding Roman tomb. It was built in the first century B.C. by the knight Caio Cestio Epulone, a rich member of the imperial cerimonial banqueting service. The monument was totally built in concrete and covered with marble slabs from north Tuscany. A tunnel introduce there in the evocative chamber inside, with frescoed walls. During Middle Age the chamber was devastated by thievs.
